  1. Appointed by politicians is normal but the highly partisan alignment of the judges isn't. With Australia's equivalent the High Court the Prime Minister advises the the Governor General usually with the Attorney General input but not actually required.

  2. How about banning children having guns so they don't go and shoot up schools. That might be a bit better and no a voluntary code of conduct with gun ownership doesn't actually work as can be seen in the US.

  3. High level judges are always appointed by politicians in every democratic country at least however the judges themselves appearing to be highly engaged in politics is unusual. It's no different to choosing the head of the military of course politicians do that but again you would hope they don't have significant party alignment otherwise they can just do a coup d'etat if ever their chosen political party loses.

  4. Hispanic just means heritage from Spanish or actually Portuguese speaking ex colonies usually. Got nothing to do with race and it's also personal identity, grandchildren of such migrants mostly just call themselves American and probably black or white or whatever.
