I think some cities just have these problems, density and movement patterns. Hard to know exactly but I know from my part of the world 2 cities can have an almost identical response but one has cases rise and the other not, restrictions fatigue may also play a part. Highly variable weather seems to be a disadvantage also.

It's called the weather, Florida and some other southern states catch fire in summer, NE in winter. This was even observed in 1918 so not exactly news.

@MidwestFarmToys Your point is jurisdiction specific. In New York it's likely spreading in high risk settings like bars and restaurants quite quickly and in theory at least they are all vaccinated. It will simultaneously be spreading in lower risk settings where these rules don't apply and spreading much quicker through the unvaccinated population in such settings. Then there's the behaviour of the local population which is somewhat unpredictable, I am in Queensland Australia a population of 5 million and we are just transitioning from covid 0 to allowing it to spread but hopefully slowly. We just had 59 cases yesterday, the highest number since March last year. My prediction is it will spread more slowly here partly population density, our main city is fairly spread out and people covert no lockdowns noting internally during the whole pandemic about 14 weeks or so of lockdowns and the rest of the time just some minor restrictions other than travel being heavily restricted to keep the virus out. Doing it at this time of year our summer is also an advantage. Currently our major restrictions are like New York need to be vaccinated for restaurants and bars and masks to be worn inside shops and vast majority do follow the rules.

@MidwestFarmToys That just demonstrates that you are easily swayed by propaganda. A few minor incidents in a country of 25 million. We are also a federation and all the clips you might have seen came from 2 cities , obviously not from my state. Some people are rent a crowd though, we actually had a couple of anti lockdown protests while not in lockdown and vast majority thought they were idiots. With vaccination rates in those cities/states that had more problems the first dose adult vaccination rates are above 95% so the literally "hate" the government and went protesting spreading the virus or supporting that would be below 5%. I don't know why you think people hate success, it makes no sense does it. Of course nobody enjoys restrictions but it's about doing what needs doing.

1200 per day isn't particularly low I would suggest.

Well it will likely increase your chances of a bad outcome, people who got flu and covid 19 together they worked out were approximately twice as likely to die. But because they are still both covid 19 the chances of a duel infection would be pretty low , maybe almost impossible.

Hope you and your friend going ok. Take care.
