  1. Americans like a few in this comment thread love high taxes for lower services as long as their perceived enemy misses out. The US for example spends more on publically funded healthcare than Australia on a per capita basis as a proportion of GDP yet it's a non universal healthcare system. Why people enjoy higher taxes for lower outcomes is beyond me, the US life expectancy is 5 years or so lower than Australia which obviously the easiest key measure to go by.
