Now Republicans in this comment thread want to compare themselves to countries that are usually very poor and or at civil war. Really , so not being at civil war and having a semi functional government is now the new American exceptionalism. The only wealthy country in the world which literally has people who compare there country to countries at civil war and think that's a great achievement, in fact exceptional.

The NRA guy is correct, all semi automatic weapons should be banned because they are killing so many people and functionally not one of them is used for hunting other than homosapiens. As far as self defense outside the home absolutely useless the bad guy with the gun will not warn you like a Hollywood movie. Self defense in the home a shotgun is more appropriate however home invasions while someone is home are extremely rare unless you are a gangster, otherwise it's for theft and they just stake the house until you're not there and rob it.

@justpray365 The cartels buy there weapons in Texas, it's estimated 90% of illegal fire arms in Mexico originate from the US. As there's no gun register either in Texas or nationally anyone can just buy a gun and sell it to the cartels. I wouldn't be surprised in fact my guess is that the cartels own a few gun shops in Texas so they can launder money and have unlimited supplies of weapons which they sell to ghosts. Critical thinking is very high amongst some it seems. The US is arming the Mexican cartels probably through multiple channels, just as states like Texas arm the gangs in Chicago.

Yep unless it's all semiautomatic weapons it's going to keep happening, it's true handguns because of much lower velocities might not kill the targets as easy but really to these gunmen that's usually not an issue, they just keep shooting targets until they stop moving even with the more powerful weapons and usually have heaps of ammo remaining because it's difficult in the school setting to get into multiple class rooms usually.
