@KMcKee-qn6bo In fact it's the smart educated ones that are most dangerous, dumb people can't make a bomb without blowing themselves up or fly a plane. If you look at the successful major suicide bombing campaigns all around the world, there is always a smart chemist in the background which is always the number one target of the authorities because without that person or persons they can't do the bombings.

I wouldn't be so sure, I think it will have an effect on sentencing.

@briankh2007 I did pay close attention and the legal expert said it has no chance of getting them off but he seemed to be agnostic or at least didn't give his opinion on whether it helps to be released on bail. I am not going to claim to know US federal sentencing guidelines however normally in liberal Democracies sentencing takes into consideration 3 things if the judge has leeway as in not a mandatory fixed sentence, punishment as a deterrent, rehabilitation so they don't re-offend and protection of society as in the risk that if released they might re-offend. If a very hardline is taken anyone who spoke of or took particular actions to commit murder or kidnapping could be charged with those attempted offences depending what the law allows. My personal view even though this might sound a little authoritarian throw the book at them all if sentencing guidelines permit, maximum sentence for every one of them that even put a toenail in that building for trespass minimum, but not the death penalty because I don't believe in that. Under the US system the president of the day could pardon the lessor offenders when the risk has subsided and a reasonable time period had passed and agreed in a bipartisan manner.
