While the event that occurred seems to be wrong , the bigger problem is it now blows up into something bigger than it is. The police officers involved should make a public apology and take victim and mum to dinner or something. But instead the mum is openly saying she wants these police to be made destitute or in other words destroy their lives by making them "unemployable". The US has far too much retaliation in it's culture rather than forgiveness and far too legalistic, lawyers would advise those police not to apologize which in the end is the main thing a normal person would want, now they won't get an apology and if they do it will be at sentencing (if it in any way reaches a court room as the parent of the child clearly wants) and seen as not genuine. There's no such thing as de-escalation in the US.
