@r.a.6459 I was wondering what was happening in Malaysia because looking like how Victoria Australia was a couple of months ago. I hope your country can succeed especially because you were doing so well before. Best of luck and look at Victoria it is possible to turn it around, they went from about 500 cases per day to now around 15 cases per day. Best of luck and I wish your country well.

The problem is it tends to kill old people so unlikely to make any change based on the survival of the fittest theory. They can still reproduce little baby Republicans.

Ana Your point is what? That young people are at low risk in general. We know that but they spread it to others who will die.

@lyndad1255 Hang in there my Victorian friend, you will soon join the rest of Australia's low cases and restrictions soon I hope. I have to say although yes contact tracing did fail early on I am amazed that Victoria got cases down from about 500 per day to about 15 now give or take. Best of luck.

@lindseystein9676 don't agree with you that how far right a country is has anything to do with anything. The number of right wing extremists might correlate though as I expect it would with left wing extremists as to how effective a strategy is because in a well functioning society those people both on the left and right extreme are small in number and not too aggressive. So to me it's more likely to do with how coherent a society is. If you look at Taiwan versus Mainland China you will see almost identical following of the rules even though one is far more authoritarian than the other. Success helps too and the neighborhood (surrounding countries or states) being successful. If Germany was in the West Pacific it would be doing better.

@r.a.6459 It sounds like you will get on top of it. Hang in there and stay positive the best you can despite any increased restrictions. We are in a select group of countries that so far have succeeded in containment.

The deaths start to lower or increase about a month after a health measure (such as bars opening or closing for an example that has a dramatic effect) is put into force or removed and continue for another month or so after the effects are first noticed. See Victoria Australia as a good case study on what occurs with good testing numbers giving as accurate a picture as can be done. Of course consider number of nursing home outbreaks as this is the worst setting.

@787UrbanApparel One can see if someone wears a mask, pretty hard to verify if someone is wearing a condom.

@787UrbanApparel you're the one who brought up the condom issue and although can't cheat death there's no reason to have everyone run towards it. I was pointing out that people wearing condoms is rather different and as long as it's consensual completely different. You not wearing a mask can kill another who didn't consent to the risk. Anyway time will tell if Taiwan, Vietnam, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand have chosen the correct path of containment as recommended by WHO or pretty much all others who have the technical capability who have chosen a different path. I love the idea of freedom that exists in these countries with tight restrictions when required and far lower restrictions overall.

@787UrbanApparel I am Australian, our country made the choice of containment. Assuming you're from the US your country decided no containment was necessary. I don't expect or think it's possible at this stage due to political reasons for the US to change it's course. Masks are the last line of defense after all other things have failed although can assist in slowing any outbreak but in it of itself will never contain the virus. The US as you know is relying on a vaccine as is every country to get back to normal, if that doesn't occur there is still a very long way to go of more of the same.
