@Brian-qg8dg Strange comment, did you realise you are referencing world wars, it wasn't the US versus the world and actually the US was slow to join both and if compared to Australia lost far fewer troops on a per capita basis. Look up John Monash, he was even given a medal by the US, it's a pity that some modern Americans don't appreciate their allies. If you read the story of John Monash you will realise he saved US servicemen's lives while under his command because he cared more for the troops than was normal at that time and an excellent strategist. He is on our $100 note currently.

At the moment I think you might be correct. I am Australian, we aren't divided like that now and I can't think of any federation around the world with such internal divisions.

@user-ul7li5mu1s I am confident we won't, while things aren't perfect they aren't too bad. Look at the second BLM rally in Sydney after it was not permitted maybe 30 or 40 people turned up. If that was in a US city of similar size it would have been completely different. Also the language used during that weekend when protests went ahead significantly different, no violence and sticking to state related incidents only , none of the I am in Brisbane but am going to protest about something that occurred in WA. Protesting about an issue in another state is ridiculous, what is the state or territory government supposed to do about issues in another jurisdiction. It doesn't mean keep an eye on issues but things are way different than the US and as I said seems unlikely to go down the US path.

@maggie6 You hang in there. I am not Victorian so I can't claim to know how it feels but I know you are doing it tough. Also good to hear that it would seem to only be the fringes making it a partisan issue.

@user-ul7li5mu1s I am from Queensland I just used WA as an example, noting the protests in the US go accross state lines. Due to the BLM protests I did learn that in WA and NT there is cases against a policeman in each state causing the death of an indigenous person and they are or were both facing charges. So actually no issue in my opinion, the law is taking it's course. I don't think saying CCP virus achieves anything, as you know the number of jurisdictions in the world that could contain the virus is in the minority at this point in time. So they couldn't contain it initially, this is not a surprise and could they have done better in the initial stages I would say they could have, but based on evidence could they have contained it to Wuhan without a single case getting out or going overseas, I think that's unlikely. You have more in common with Margaret than me because you are both going through the same situation. I understand you are doing it tough and you seem like a decent person. Hang in there and try your best to be calm, it's not a partisan issue, my government is Labor also and currently in a very different situation. Take care, the rest of Australia wants you to succeed.

Banned is probably the wrong word without qualification. People coming from every country to Australia must have an extremely good reason , not a holiday, either a returning citizen or diplomat I guess and a few other exemptions. So a normal US citizen or citizen of any country can't come here and if anyone does come here 2 weeks mandatory government supervised hotel quarantine I am pretty sure. In the way I think you mean , of course US citizens are banned, citizens of every country are. For anyone of any country other than a head of state maybe to think they can currently travel around the world freely , they are just completely ignorant. In Australia you can't travel freely internally, 14 days mandatory quarantine in many cases when crossing a state border, including government supervised hotel quarantine in some cases.

@user-ul7li5mu1s you surprised me with that last response. I am not so sure those parties are compatible.

Well the few hot spots is every mainland state. Hawaii and Alaska are doing ok, so technically it's only the wrong emphasis, should be we have a few areas doing well instead of a few hot spots.

It's not racist it's nationalist. Previously viruses were often named by there place of discovery. Queensland Australia we have 2 , Ross River fever, a mosquito born disease that occasionally kills people and the far more deadly Hendra Virus a suburb of Brisbane. This virus has infected people going from bat to horse to human, no known cases of human to human transmission and mortality rate in the range of avian flu or Ebola although due to the very low case numbers it might not be accurate although the mortality of horses was in the same range. Hendra has a horse race track that's why a suburban setting was a relatively major outbreak place.
