Yes our region did the right thing. It's funny and sad at the same time the behaviour especially of the US, all the Trump supporters and other antivaxxers turned on Australia but now they are going silent. There's far softer rhetoric about Europe for some reason. I think you should open your border however because your vaccination rate is really high and it's summer, opening in April as the weather starts to cool is more risky in my opinion.

@chrisquinn394 I don't think your assessment of getting milder is correct, back in the 1918 pandemic you either died or got immunity, so it was more a case of the population getting stronger at fighting it not the mutations. Flu pandemics in 50s and 60s actually killed a lot of people so viruses can mutate to more deadly. We don't know what the variant after omicron might be maybe it's more deadly but as more of the population has immunity through vaccination or natural infection it might appear less deadly, but an unvaccinated person with no history of infection might be at higher risk than with Omicron.

@chrisquinn394 Yes I didn't say it was your random opinion , just that the evidence actually doesn't point in that direction as I explained. Everytime there's a bad flu year the mutation is bad and more deadly. The virus will stay within a sweet spot or a range on the deadly scale but it will go up and down within that range. Covid 19 started off within that range clearly and hasn't moved outside that range although Delta has been more deadly compared to the original Wuhan variant to younger groups mostly through ability to infect it seems. The theory of becoming less deadly only if it goes way outside the range, if a variant started to kill 10% of people guaranteed actions would be taken to make sure it's stopped no matter how hard those actions would be. In the current situation killing about 1% of infected not accounting for age many politicians don't care and think letting it spread is ok.
