  2. Whatever the rules are it should be federal and not state by state. Australia has different rules for state elections but federal elections are carried out by the federal government with one rule for all. Republicans are wrong that enfranchisement of more people counts against them. Depending on the issue Australia could be considered to the right or left of the US . The US under Trump actually lurched to the left on trade and industry policy and although I don't think it's a personal belief to the right on social and religious issues. To me he seems to have no real belief system, just populism and what he thought would get most votes.
