  1. The UK and US never had a lockdown, just lockdown lite or a basic mitigation lockdown. See Taiwan , Vietnam, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand where lockdowns occur until virus contained and quarantine at the border. South Korea and Japan not far behind but maybe flying close to the sun because while the virus isn't out of control in those countries if cooperation levels drop in getting tested and following guidelines they could have big problems. They do seem to "live with it".

  2. I don't believe it's accent, it's a different language, I know my country Australia has AUSIGN . I don't know any sign so no idea how different the various sign languages are.

  4. Yep stay in your information bubble, lockdowns didn't work in China,Taiwan, Thailand, Australia and NZ with less combined cases currently than Wyoming. Keep listening to the Trump it must be our testing. From Australia best of luck.

  5.  @jeffwolff1015  Really? The only countries to actually lockdown are countries such as China, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand. Obviously all those countries along with a few others maintain border restrictions but I would argue not doing so bad, economy is terrible too but without the deaths and everything open. Thailand might have issues if a major outbreak because of political unrest.

  6.  @jeffwolff1015  With respect you don't understand what a lockdown is. You are talking about the mechanism not the reality, Japan had a voluntary lockdown similar to US policies however they didn't force businesses to close they did it voluntarily, Japan also implemented extreme stimulus measures. Look at videos of Tokyo in March and compare to NY at the time. The US and UK to this day have not had border quarantine or closed borders, all the countries I mentioned including Japan have compulsory enforced 14 days quarantine, normally in hotels. I do agree Thailand might have problems because of political unrest. When you look at case numbers in the countries I mentioned other than South Korea and Japan the cases are almost all imported cases detected at the border. You said South Korea might go into lockdown , and all countries I mentioned will quickly introduce lockdown type measures if required because yes they work and can get control quickly. If you look at the different Australian states the one with a light enforcement policy in the beginning, they ended up with the most problems. In Western countries we can't be Japan enforcement is required we don't work on an honor system. Contact tracing can only succeed if cases low enough. The other thing all these countries have in common is a higher detection rate in the beginning. Much more official cases than Europe and US in February but in reality it was detection of more not that Europe and US were virus free.

  7.  @jeffwolff1015  I don't think you actually disagree with me however you are singling out one measure as not effective. Without border quarantine or travel restrictions by definition you are not locked down. The US never had travel restrictions and no border quarantine either interstate or international other than voluntary. You do recognize that the US lockdown failed and I agree because contact tracing etc. outside of a few states still hasn't occured. Australia s initial path was that of the US but we diverged significantly as you can see. Our technical capability in the beginning was equal to that of the US. Even though our federal government didn't like it all state borders shut except one. Lockdowns are proportional so if numbers are low enough no need for a hard lockdown, if cases are brought to 0 very quickly like Taiwan, no need for lockdown anymore, they did do a lockdown however closing bars, restaurants take out only and mask wearing. Taiwan had the advantage versus let's say my state Queensland because far fewer incoming cases which might surprise you. So a state of 5,000,000 has had twice as many documented imported cases than Taiwan a population of 25,000,000 so better resourced to deal with the matter. I don't know what the best path might be for the US at this point in time, 300,000 excess deaths already including directly from covid 19 and from secondary effects. The US will not do a hard lockdown and so far looking like no state or Puerto Rico are going to put in travel restrictions with enforced quarantine. New York is apparently going to rely on testing for air arrivals to reduce the incoming cases I guess and maybe that's the best way to go because I don't think any state wants to go covid 19 free. Anyway best of luck , I feel for you and I am happy to be in a covid 19 free state that had maybe 8 weeks hard lockdown in the beginning and fairly low restrictions since other than interstate travel which hopefully comes off in a month or so if all states covid 19 free.

  8. They are not trying to control it , it's only a short lockdown lite or mitigation lockdown. Lockdowns to contain the virus are mostly in West Pacific countries and very successful for the most part , only Indonesia and Philippines significantly struggling at this point in time because of very dense living conditions where it's probably impossible to stop the virus.

  9.  @jamesbecker3420  You're both mad, Australia and New Zealand looking on thinking lucky we had a containment policy, it's neverending outside of the West Pacific and arguably Africa. Every country hopes for effective vaccine because although maybe Western Pacific nations are doing well it's far from normal and of course significant travel restrictions and no international tourists damaging some countries more than others.

  10.  @jamesbecker3420  According to someones personal situation things can be very different and in big cities it's much higher risk of catching it and much more business directly relying on consumers. Without an effective vaccine I can't see the US situation improving in part due to major political division. Australia we were very fortunate the federal government and all state governments regardless of political party cooperated even if they didn't always agree. In one way and not diminishing the heartache it did cause , it was a bit funny all but 2 states shut there borders and the federal government didn't really like this but as is the case in the US both the state and federal governments have these powers. By shut meaning only essential travel and freight and 2 weeks hotel quarantine in many cases of it's a person coming into the state. These restrictions have dramatically reduced in most cases but one state has kept a real hard border with all other states.
