  1. It's a bad idea to half do it. Either do it properly or not at all. Anyone who can afford it can fly to Doha or Dubai and then on to Europe or US and undergo voluntary quarantine in the case of the US, being voluntary compliance is extremely low when it needs to be 100%. If one case gets in and spreads to 5 people it's game over and that's probably already happened in many countries but not detected yet. 90% of all Australian cases originated from 2 individual cases.

  2. The US doesn't do much genomic testing, they'll find it when some state has 1,000 cases a day of it. Like the now old saying goes "if you don't test you don't have cases".

  5.  @ilnaeas  Travel isn't being banned, just like every other time it doesn't apply to US citizens and permanent residents. Then only voluntary quarantine or in other words not quarantine.

  6. If you haven't done it from day one it's not going to happen now. The so called travel bans aren't because completely full of holes. The restrictions required are like Western Pacific WHO region countries do with 14 days mandatory enforced usually hotel quarantine upon arrival. With this variant Australia hasn't reacted yet and actually currently some states have moved to home quarantine only. We will see if our position changes back to what it was which of course our governments would hate to do.
