Being the most violent wealthy country by a factor of 5 based on homicides you're going to have to do a lot of talking and thinking. The answer is actually all around you in every other wealthy nation. Consider that you also have the title of the most people in prison for a wealthy nation and almost all nations. So just locking people up isn't working. More consistent handouts for the needy including ex felons because in many states they get out of prison get no support and then of course commit a crime sometimes intentionally to go straight back in. Universal healthcare wouldn't be a bad idea and it can be cheaper than your current publically funded healthcare which is more expensive than Australia's genuine universal healthcare. Change to an egalitarian society, not sure how that could occur but at the moment the US certainly isn't that, wealth and privilege are seen as something to be looked up to and if they do the wrong thing that's considered ok, poor people tend to beat on other poor people as a rule. Just a couple of ideas.
