Every hospital has so called death panels, just Americans turn it political. If a person is old and frail they will be more reluctant to treat and advise the person themselves and or the family the situation. Most people don't want to keep a family member suffering longer just so they are alive if no realistic chance of meaningful recovering. But what is occurring in California , was occurring in NY early on and elsewhere but not reported is a different story because it's going way outside of the norm I mentioned.

Jeffr I know exactly what Fauci did because I can compare it to the Australian messaging. Our messaging was we don't want people to run out and buy masks because they are needed for healthcare workers, when Australia's chief health officer was asked further details about the decision he explained that if people wear masks and become complacent about social distancing it could make things worse so this is part of the decision. We were advised if we are sick to wear a mask but otherwise not. Fauci and Australia's chief health officer had the same information. For whatever reason he did the same thing to Birx and either cut them both slack or condemn both of them, my feeling is under the circumstances they did the best they could noting Fauci and Redfield along with the rest but particularly them can be considered absolutely negligent or incompetent from the January February debacle where only 500 tests were conducted versus 10,000 for Australia and 100,000 for South Korea and on February 26 Fauci was asked why the US had so few cases [relative to Asian countries] and he said because the US had great healthcare and the contact tracing was working well. He never investigated otherwise Australia having 15 cases detected with other countries like South Korea a few more and Japan , Thailand, Malaysia all similar to Australia and the US 15 cases also. The probability of this being correct is about 0%. Obviously we all missed cases back then but you would find Australia probably detected 50% and the US 10% of cases if that noting the US population is about 15 times that of Australia. Those percentage just example nobody really knows except that Italy and US had the worst early performance.

Fauci only changed fairly late in the piece and the writing was on the wall and also Trump could sack her but not him. In January and February it's known that Fauci and Redfield completely failed due to absolute incompetence or negligence with only 500 tests conducted versus 10,000 for Australia and 100,000 for South Korea. There were 15 ports of entry decided on and one didn't even have the useless temperature check, so 5% of arrival's with no screening at all and I would be certain that there was no information on what to do if you become sick, this is fairly standard procedure in Australia especially if any concerns of diseases entering our country are apparent, it's always been from day 1 to now a complete debacle and only one person I have heard might not fit the political mold of the rest and that's Dr Michael Osterholm who for whatever reason wasn't chosen to be on Biden's current taskforce only a transition advisor. Biden stated that something Osterholm had said regarding lockdown measures that should be taken or something like that was not policy, I think the 2 could be related.

@Bandomeme Trump's bad actions came into play in March, he wasn't responsible for initial failures in any way as far as I can see, the money was there and the approval was there for the CDC to do it's thing which it failed dismally at. Could the US have turned things around if Trump was say the equivalent of the Premier of Queensland Australia or the New Zealand Prime Minister, I honestly think yes it could have been turned around in a reasonable time frame but required good leadership. Mediocre leadership like that in many European countries although not as bad as Trump, in most cases but not all , almost the same results. So if you put the French President or Italian Prime Minister in charge of the US you would still have the same end results.

@PanzyTheOne As far as Trump throwing away the pandemic playbook , he didn't, however some defunding did occur so less people available and less chance of advanced information, which would have made no difference as far as I can see because the playbook test and trace was done completely unsuccessfully. Fauci stated how well this was being done on 26 February because of the good US healthcare system , test and trace the US didn't have many cases. If you think Australia has done badly well that's your opinion which seems to be entirely partisan. What do you think of Biden stopping foreigners enter from some countries yet allowing US citizens from those same countries enter without hotel quarantine meaning will achieve nothing in prevention of any new strains entering?
