  1. You lack confidence in the ability of any US government to become functional. That's what your entire comment comes down to. If the US copied the Australian system for healthcare and went universal it would be cheaper, Australia spends less on publically funded healthcare than the US. Now you can have your trip to Hawaii. If you changed your welfare system to support those in need rather than corporations it would be cheaper, locking up 1% of your entire adult population is very expensive. If you look at incarceration rates by US state and homicide rates and see which states are leaning Democrat or Republican you find the following, Red states higher incarceration rates, higher homicide rates and blue states the other direction on average. So you have these often broke ass crime ridden Republican states spending money on creating a giant prison industry often at way above cost I suspect because many prisons are privatized. Stop locking people up and spend the money on social instead of corporate welfare and you can have 2 Hawaii trips. If you dig down deep you find that Bernie's policies don't actually cost anything if they could be implemented properly, Australian government spending is comparable to that of the US but we have very different societies and priorities.
