I think because Trump didn't actually understand the interviewers mannerisms. Also he knew when to pull back rather than constantly attack like some reporters do causing a defensive reaction in Trump. I have a feeling Trump won't want an Australian interviewing him for a while. Maybe , who knows he might be thinking of Rupert Murdoch an ex Australian who Trump is likely fond of.

I have read through the comments and think people are a little confused. Australians and Americans are not homogeneous groups. The diversity in the US might be greater but this has also been demonstrated in Australia recently. The political system in the US is conducive to what is occurring, in Australia if our leader the prime minister stuffs up according to the ruling party they just replace him, he might generally choose the cabinet by conventions within a party not the law which really gives the whole elected party the choice but the ministers (secretary of whatever) are elected officials. The King chooses them in the US and no need that they are elected and he can fire them at will. To remove the King (president) it's a lengthy process of impeachment, in Australia sometimes removing a leader even half the elected representative are unaware until hours before. The cabinet in the US and Australia is the government, one elected and one chosen by a king. We are all just people and largely a product of our environment.
