  1. The airfield where I'm based is often used for RAF helicopter night training using night vision goggles. They'll often phone up beforehand just to make sure there's no traffic operating at the airfield. I've been driving up the motorway before when the car suddenly started shaking - it was a Chinook flying over at low level, following the motorway. The noise and vibration had just stopped when it started again - the second Chinook flew over my car!

  2. You need 12 hours notice, at the time to Special Branch, to fly from the IoM, under the Prevention Of Terrorism Act. However if you didn't land there, they didn't have any reason for stopping you. Unless landing there you didn't need a flight plan either.
