Before '81 it was Citizens Banned.

@GeorgeLiquor Not my idea. I seem to remember there was a CB magazine back then called Citizens Banned! 🙂

@Doubledsccreepingtom The 10M band has been open today so I thought I'd have a tune around on the CB frequencies to see what I could hear. I could hear US CB operators here in the UK.

@enoz.j3506 I smiled a little. 🙂

Yes, there was no frequency allocation for them until 1981.

To what? CB was legalised in 1981.

@darkslayer6911 A UK specific 27MHz allocation on FM was made legal in 1981. If you look at FM CB sets from the time, they have the 27/81 logo on them.

Where I am from, in the late '70s, early '80s, the main person in the local CB community was the local policeman. He lived in the police station and had a huge base antenna on a pole in the garden. At the age of 10 or 11, I operated the station from his shack, especially in the bad winters we had, to coordinate bread and milk deliveries to the elderly and others who couldn't get out in the snow.

@boilerroombob UK, but I won't say where, though the gentleman in question passed away about 3 years ago.
