I am little disappointed with Ian, an expert on China. Xi has been in total control of CCP for years now. Hu did not and is not actively against Xi. Hu actually is an example of clean retirement unlike Jiang before him, so there is no need for Xi to intentionally humiliate Hu at all. Ian is projecting his and West’s bias here. Hu can sit there because of Xi’s approval. Hu knew better to not make a scene (it is useless anyway). It is most likely Hu was losing awareness of the situation. Hu is known to have health issue in past few years.

@brucel7430 You don't even realize that you are contradicting yourself. You said Xi wanted Hu to be there to show unity, which I actually agree. Then you said Xi wanted to prevent Hu read the document and maybe protest so he removed Hu In Public Eyes. So which one of these you believe is true? If the 2nd one, why Xi allow Hu to be in Public at all? Can you answer this contradiction in your two statement?

@brucel7430 You are contradicting yourself again. Xi must approve the final documents. IF there are contents that Xi does not want Hu to read (I doubt it since Hu already retired for 10 years and he actually was the example of the clean retirement, unlike Jiang), Xi would not allow Hu to sit there at all. Again you and I both agree Xi is in total control. But you don't understand the Fact Hu had Xi's permission to sit there. And the important CCP meetings were all arranged and settled before hand. Xi and other CCP Supreme Leaders would not allow any accident, unless it is like medical one here.

@brucel7430 One more fact for you, one day before this final meeting, all Hu's favorites candidates were all out of the group of 25 top senior leaders. This means Hu already knew all his men were out of powers for the top 7 which comes out of the top 25. There is no So Called Surprise Candidate List here Westerner guessed to prevent Hu to read. You better checked that out. What happened is the guy next to Hu noticed Hu lost sense and hence he started talked to him and helped him organized the files in front of him. Hu actually mistaken Xi's documents as his own. You need to view the full version. And before that was almost half day of closed door meeting and real voting. Hu knew everything and Xi could remove Hu before the reporters coming in. You need check these facts out.

@brucel7430 Only idiot will believe Xi wanted to prevent Hu from reading the document in Public Eyes and not to just simply prevented Hu being present in the meeting. Can you explain this to yourself first? What you missed is that Xi was and is in total control. Without Xi's approval, Hua could not sit there. You need get that Straight!
