  1. Chinese leaders, unlike others, always focused on the domestic issue first. So they are not going to open up just for the international pressure or cost. And I totally agree with that.

  2. These guys just asserted the short-term pain of open-up is much less than long-term pain of zero policy without any evidence. 1) They assume the zero policy will fail with Omicron. This is not likely at all. 2) Even if zero policy will fail, it is much better than open-up in short term. They both agreed with that. 3) At worse, China should only open up when there is clearly evidence the zero policy will fail, like Xi'an could not get to zero in a month etc. Otherwise all these discussion is baseless. 4) For long-term, China should open up after either the next variant is much more mild than even Omicron or it has its population vaccinated with more effective mRNA vaccines. Both could happen in 1-2 years.

  3.  @OlJackBurton  Time will tell, right? China clearly contained Delta (Xi'an is Delta and Tianjin is Omicron). Let us wait for few months to see whether it can contain Omicron.
