General David M. Shoup was awarded The Medal of Honor at Tarawa. Cuba was much bigger than Tarawa and he could see that an invasion would require a much larger landing force then what they had planned to give him.

Yup, I was 10 and living in the rural south. Nothing worth nuking around us. We would just wait and see if we would live through the radiation in the following days and weeks afterwords.

@Sheridan2LT In the beginning when there were just A bombs people outside of cities and military bases felt their danger would be fallout. However, when the much more powerful H bombs were created then everyone throw in the towel.
