@thomassenbart Colonies were incredibly expensive, and generally the colonies gained more than the mother country.

This is complicated, theres truth and some exaggeration to this. The problem is people arent willing to sacrifice to get to this state. Communities? Where are they?

Women have always been part of the work force. They didn't join the work force in the 20th century

Absolutely false 😂.

Lol what? 😂 It benefited private individuals...a few of them. It didn't benefit the mass majority of the nation as a whole. Nor was it profitable down the line...I mean looking at Britains colonies you can easily see that. It took money from nations...causing debts and instability. The Spanish empire is a perfect example. So is the Portuguese. France can't really be compared...they never developed enough and their profits were trade. The American colonies broke off and became their own nation and it wasn't planned for. Early days for the colonies were atrocious and expensive af.

And we're not a net benefit.

So your argument grows weaker by the second. But let's focus on India cause you think one example is evidence that it's profitable....(African colonies also drained European profit....and were never developed enough to be successful on a large scale)

The east India company became most successful as a trading partner in the 1600s way before any colonization took hold by the British government. As soon as the east Indian company started taking more control it actually suffered worse especially by the late 1700s. By that time Britain had developed the industrial power independent of colonization profits rather trade and therefore took over....and yet it still lost a lot of profits over the years due to famines, and having to deal with debts to princes. So no you absolutely can separate them and no colonization was not the thing that made Europe rich sorry.

@thomassenbart nope is isn't 😂. Clearly you don't study history 😂

@thomassenbart the East India company made their money through trade, and diplomacy. Of course they also eventually helped one pricen fight another. But to claim them capturing some trading posts being the source, , instead of the wealth and connections they brought to the people they met (who subsequently embraced them) is insane and shows an incredible level of stupidity
