@scythonic I don't think think the U.S. uses that rhetoric that you're using. Usually, it's the U.S. asking permission to send a couple of SF advisors to a country. These countries ask for help because they struggle with insurgencies. Also, if I do recall, the oil fallacy only applies to Iraq. Meanwhile, in other nations, the U.S. has troops in that isn't Europe has their resources untapped by the U.S. Usually, it'd be the local government or China tapping those resources. Now, as for the countries we left in ruin, it's always going to end up that way. Are you an idealist? Why not try it yourself. Anyways, the U.S. if it's allowed to rebuild without major interference, it could end up like the next South Korea, Japan, Germany, etc. Seriously, we blew Japan to the Stone Age and look where it is now. It's at that point because the U.S. and other nations were allowed to rebuild the infrastructure there without any interference from insurgencies. In Iraq and Afghanistan, reconstruction was difficult due to harsh insurgent opposition and incompetent government workers in their respective countries. Yet it seems Iraq started to care about stopping conflict and has let Western aid flow and is recovering now.
Root cause of global instability: selfish idealism like yours gets in the way of progress. Like seriously, just wait to change the government after reconstruction is over.
