I am born in the USSR, and I remember the situation of political opression there, that led to people's political silence. But I also remember the case of early 1990’ies, when I lived in an already post Soviet country (Lithuania), and travelled to Sweden. People were used to be poor in my country, and were used to stealing. I felt a lot of fear that somebody will steal my luggage if I turn away or fall asleep in a public place, in an airport, a bus, a train or a station. And the feeling that I am unsafe, I am in some danger among strangers, used to go away completely when I arrived in Sweden, and left all of “my people” behind.
