  2. The big bad neighbour had annexed Latvia in war from 1940 til 1991. There's nothing strange there that the people the big bad neighbour brought to live in Latvia since are being influenced by their former motherland (= the big bad neighbour that tells them that it is the big wonderfully good motherland), and wanting that neighbour to annex Latvia again and annihilate everything Latvian they don't care of.

  3. Imagine you let imjigrants come in to your country and then they make this “separatism” to your country (and you, of course). For Latvia, it was worse. The neighbouring occupants came with war, annexed the whole country and let all those strangers into the country. They make separatism now, because the neighbouring country is their country and it is an aggressive country wanting to annex Latvia again, and make all Latvians dissappear from Latvia, so that only Russians live there in the future and no Latvia is ever possible again.
