@donnievance1942 It must be pretty tiny. Anyway, the whole Russian Black Sea fleet is doomed. It's a trap ... like a lobster trap and none of those vessels are going to leave intact.

You should also mention that the Dardanelles is currently closed to transit by naval vessels in either direction and any warship Russian or other transferred to the region will have to sail in circles out in the Mediterranean for the foreseeable future. It cannot reach the Black Sea. What you mention is propaganda and not practical. A Russian submarine MIGHT conceivably sneak out of the Black Sea at night, submerged but they'd have to run the gauntlet of the very capable Turkish antisubmarine forces (a NATO specialty).

@UserUser-ww2nj I'm surprised that they weren't escorted by a tug. (I used to be in a NATO navy and we were less than impressed with the condition of Soviet ships.)

Massive reinforcement of untrained draftees who don't want to be there, have little equipment and are about to literally freeze to death in the Ukrainian winter wearing camo they bought on Amazon but nothing for winter.

That famous Ukrainian farmer with the John Deere tractor who tows away abandoned Russian tanks would make short work of those. When you see closeup photos of them, they all have steel rings cemented into them for handling. The old farmer merely has to hook on and drag it to thee side. They're not very big, either. You have to wonder what that little bit of theatre is aimed at? ... for home consumption in Russia? "Look at the IMPENETRABLE DEFENSIVE LINE we've built!"

Landing behind the lines on a big river and surprising the occupiers is how the British took control of North America at Quebec in 1759. Wolfe was audacious and his gamble won them a whole continent.

The Russian navy theoretically cannot bring in any ships to the Black Sea (nor can others) as the Strait of Dardanelles in Turkey is supposed to be closed to warships transiting in either direction during a conflict. If they could, you'd think that they would have brought in replacement landing ships for offensive actions and to pull trapped troops out of Kherson. Also, NATO wold have filled the Black Sea with ships (most of the coastline of the Black Sea is NATO) but that hasn't happened. It's an urban legend that the Russians have added ships.

As the Kherson kettle gets smaller and smaller, thousands of Russian troops occupy a smaller and smaller space. There will either be a massacre or a mass surrender of those isolated Russian forces, eventually. They've shown no talent for fighting their way out of encirclements and there is no other route out for them.
2
@courcheval The Russians don't want to rule them. The Russians have made it very clear that they want to eliminate the Ukrainian people from the face of the earth and have publicly stated that intention. As for the Americans, no matter how misguided their foreign policy is, they don't "rule" anyone, anywhere. At the present moment, they are having great difficulties ruling themselves. They are nothing at all like the Russians and it is a false equivalency.
2
@werwolfnate Yup. It's like a Hollywood film set made of papier mache. (Be Careful of mines, though.)
2
@CaptainJackBlack The entire Maginot line was a complete waste of concrete because the Germans just drove around it. Merde.

Don't you think that the fearless and mighty Belarus army is going to SWEEP down to Kyiv in a lightning fast blitzkreig? Be Careful! Don't poke the Belarusian White Stork!

@UserUser-ww2nj Did you wave at the remains of the Graf Spee on your way up? ("Enjoy your swim, Rudy?") I grew up right on the St. Lawrence.
1
@UserUser-ww2nj Which one? ... the one about the Graf Spee or the one about the St. Lawrence river?

The Ukrainians need only to besiege the region for the winter and the frozen, starving Russians will simply surrender en masse.
1
Time to think about a refugee application.

All they have to do is attack one single ship and no one will insure Russian shipping in the Black Sea. I suggest they hit a tied up Russian ship full of fertilizer. The explosion will level the harbor. The Russians have just made a huge and very stupid strategic error.

That was the hard landing of a Russian killer locust.

@peterbeninger7068 We got back the northern half including Quebec. Montreal was occupied for a time during thee Revolution but the American occupiers were such flaming assholes that the French Quebecers stuck with the Crown, instead. Over the subsequent 245 years, that northern half has remained free.

@courcheval The Ukrainian recruits have a great deal of motivation to fight their neighbours who have invaded their lands, raped their women, tortured and killed thousands for fun, shot little old Ukrainian ladies for sport, looted everything of value from their homes, laid waste to Ukrainian towns and cities and now are destroying the basic infrastructure of Ukraine so that the Ukrainians die in a miserable cold winter. They are so motivated that they will hate their Russian neighbours for hundreds of years from now.
1
@CaptainJackBlack No the Germans built the SIegfried line which is what was mentioned in the video and what we are all talking about. The Maginot line ... worked like a charm, eh?
