@smooth_sundaes5172 De Gaulle also hated Canada and when he visited there in 1967 and publicly declared "Vive le Quebec libre!" ... which would have been an act of war in many other countries. France ceased to be seen as an ally of Canada. I know. I was in the Canadian forces a decade later and none of us considered France to be a reliable ally ... or even an ally at all despite the 100,000 Canadians buried in France having died there while liberating their country.
