@barbarahalkyard1901 "The first cargo ship was built in 1931" The first carrgo ship was built around 6000 BC. The first metal cargo ship (iron) was built in 1843. They weren't quite 200,000 ton displacement back then, though.

@jebbo-c1l Canada started training up 10s of thousands of Ukrainian troops starting with that 2014 invasion (as did the UK and US as well). The presence of a NATO trained core using Western military doctrine probably saved Ukraine in the early days of 2022.

@RainerMichelle The biggest Ukrainian ex-pat community is in Canada where 1.4 million have Ukrainian roots. The Tzars, Austro-Hungarians, Nazis, Communists and now Putin have pushed them there and they mostly thrive in Canada. The climate and geography of the Canadian Prairies are even the same as those of Ukraine.

@RainerMichelle They started to arrive in Canada in the 1880s and Ukrainians were detained as "enemy aliens" during WWI because the Ukraine at the time was part of the Austrian Empire and Canada was at war with that almost forgotten entity.

@firstnamerequiredlastnameo3473 The Russian army has lost half of the land that they occupied right after the invasion but you Russians are not allowed to know that.Your 300,000 call-ups are not competent soldiers nor does the Russian army have the gear to equip them. The Russian system is so corrupt that weapons and uniforms only exist on paper and the money for them was pocketed by corrupt military leaders and contractors. Those 300,000 will freeze to death, starve to death this winter. The history of the region favours the defenders (Ukrainian) and goes against the invaders (Germans, French and now Russians). Trump is breathing down everyone's neck and we are looking at American aid being abruptly cut off to Ukraine, NATO suddenly watching the US leave the alliance, the US retreating from all sorts of multilateral military agreements (NORAD? RIMPAC? Five Eyes? ANZUS?).... all exactly one year from now. Putin can smell victory, again. Maybe, Trump finally becomes a real billionaire then.
