If the Russians are really, really lucky and don't do anything stupid they may not got to learn what modern, cutting edge professional armies can do to them. "Dnieper Storm"
25
@Prodelem Is it? Maybe Putin wants you to think that. He's the aggressor and whatever way he wants to fight determines how the rest of us respond to it.
11
@Prodelem I could visualize the use of a tactical nuclear weapon. That doesn't necessarily mean a tit-for-tat exchange. NATO armies are vastly better trained, equipped, motivated and led (ultimately outnumber the Russians if fully mobilized) and they could roll up the Russian forces "desert storm" style when they have the support of the surrounding populations ... which they will. Antyway, there are twelve steps at least from the use of a battlefield nuke to full scale city killing armageddon.

Ths Scandinavians add up to a rserious NATO asset both in capability and geographic situation.

My respect goes to the family of the sniper and what they're going through because these animals like the General are trying to destroy them.
5
@Prodelem It's not necessarily true but that doctrine is the basis of MAD. Humans make our own reality as we go , not professors building theoretical models. One of the miracles of human history is that poison gas was not used on cities or on battlefields during WWII (just on helpless captives in concentration camps). That wouldn't have fit any professor's model in the 1930s, based on seeing whole populations carrying around gas masks for the entirety of the war.

Where were all the Aussies? Oh, yeah ... Where are the Canadians? "Who are they?"
3
Don't forget when the Americans defeated Japan single-handed .
3
Ahh, it's the famous "Zolotov" Cocktail that did it. ... not nearly enough diesel fuel.
3
Shot in the back by his own troops? I'll bet that he was a slime ball.

@justiceforall2054 You can tell. The average life expectancy of a Russian Male is 67.62 years. It's 81.15 years in my country (76.61 years in the US) Something does that. Alcohol addiction is a plausible cause.
2
@MatthewChenault True. Theses are guided, sea-skimming cruise missiles like Exocets and earlier Harpoon and they are designed to hit at the waterline. Mostly, you will encounter machinery spaces there but ... you're right ... with a little luck maybe a storage bay full of missiles.
2
It's not a particularly good army, just a big one. In our particular Western army, the highest field rank is Lieutenant Colonel and Generals aren't doing their jobs of they're risking themselves at the front.
1
The next big target out there will be a landing ship full of soldiers.
1
Hey, Putin tried to eat a poisonous pie called Ukraine.
1
Oz makes money from this. Canada makes money from this. Even Britain makes money from this with their North Sea oil and gas. Time to start up CANZUK as an oil cartel! Just call me Habibi, eh!
1
In order for WWIII to be triggered, some part of the World would have to come to Russia's aid. Maybe the Serbs will (birds of a feather...) The pragmatic Chinese won't fight for a backwards loser like Russia. Nothing in it for them. The "world war" that the Russians claim is happening is most of the World against an incompetent, genocidal Russia that is getting weaker by the minute. Talk about O.T.T....
1
So, do you figure that the Ukrainians are going to run up the white bed sheet in despair? I don't. This is just piissing them off even more.
1
MAN can those ever do a job on maternity hospitals and kindergartens! HURRAY for RUSSIA!
1
... damaged populists around the World. Did you hear that, Trump? Boris? Le Pen?
1
Hell has room for lots more of these.
1
Plenty of room in Hell for lots more Russian field officers who are terrorizing other countries.
1
Same war .. not a new war ... Russia versus everybody else.
1
Sounds like a typical Russian tactic.

"τότε λέγει αὐτῶ ὁ ἰησοῦς, ἀπόστρεψον τὴν μάχαιράν σου εἰς τὸν τόπον αὐτῆς, πάντες γὰρ οἱ λαβόντες μάχαιραν ἐν μαχαίρῃ ἀπολοῦνται." "Put your sword back into its place; for all who take the sword will perish by the sword." - Matthew 26, 26:52

No, no no! Russia's awesome five year old state-of-the Russian naval art frigate was damaged in an ACCIDENT!! You see, two sailors were dumping the galley scraps over the side and they were attacked this gigantic sea monster. One of the sailors ... a Lieutenant I think ... dropped a lit cigarette out of his mouth into a bucket of petrol that JUST HAPPENED TO BE LYING ON THE DECK and that set off an accidental blast and then the sea monster wrapped it's tentacles around the wheelhouse and started pulling the ship down. Ukraine has ZERO to do with it!

No doubt, he's already been shot.

DON'T DRINK THE TEA!!

@MatthewChenault One missile strike shouldn't sink a ship unless a magazine or something as volatile (turbine fuel?) was hit. The Ukrainians are claiming two hits. it is also possible that like Russian tanks, their warships are of inferior design and construction. The Russian Navy hasn't been tried in battle since WWII and the surface fleet didn't do much back then. There will be a tendency to cut corners in construction if you've never faced threats and instead turn out mean-looking propaganda props like the Kirovs.
1
@MatthewChenault Maybe. You're trying to hit a specific target and you succeed at it. Is that a "lucky hit"?
1
@forfun5238 Do you know how difficult it is to shoot down an incoming sea-skimming cruise missile radars on? It's a one in a hundred long shot. That's why Western vessels mostly have CIWS on board. You Know that? Gamer? Russian Gamer?
