  1. The real failure is that the Canadian people don't give a shyte about their Armed Forces, won't cough up the taxes to fund them and have no interest in making defence matters an election issue. The Canadian people don't care and are unwilling to pay for their own defenses. Sure, the Americans do it for us when it is in their own interests, not in ours. Grown up countries defend themselves. Colonial children are defended by Dad.
