This is a good test of the NATO alliance to see who is "in" and who is essentially "out". Assigning some sort of leadership role to France and Germany in this alliance and any EU army that is planned might now be seen as a strategic mistake. Better to find that out now than when Russia might attack a NATO ally in say, the Baltic countries or Poland.

@mikeb5664 They're already in to 1970s stocks. Russians do not have the industrial infrastructure to replace them which is why they are riding their old, old Soviet ordinance.

Westerners have been underestimating Ukrainian resourcefulness all along. They're pretty quick studies because they are VERY motivated. Russia is no longer capable of producing large numbers of tanks with high technology as they no longer have access to it or have the ability to produce their own. 1850 "Marshall Zhukov tanks" ...
