  2.  @canadiansociologist5929  If/when we abolish the monarchy, we will end up supporting and protecting a Head of State anyway. Look at the Republic to the south of us. They have a head of state that has the power of an 18th century European monarch and it costs them vast amounts of money. We're getting a bargain, right now ... all the pomp, etc. for relatively little outlay. p.s. If Canada wants to abolish the Monarchy, constitutionally it will take the approval of all ten Provinces and that pig will never fly.

  3. What money to support Mother Britain? We don't pay them anything. We pay for the Queen's Representative the Governor General but if the Queen weren't there, we'd still be covering the cost of a Head of State. It's been a long, long time since Canada sent taxes to "Mother Britain" but you know that because you're a Sociologist.

  6.  @davidhamilton6612  I was a Stoker in the Cdn. Navy (MARCOM). 1970s.. just before the Falklands so we watched it all unfolding with extreme interest. We literally grabbed beers and cheered the Brits on as the news was televised, like we were watching them in a football match.

  7.  @canadiansociologist5929  We are paying for ourselves. You are misinformed. We don't pay a nickel for the Queen. Anyway, however you feel about it the Crown is so embedded in our Constitution that try as you might, huff-and-puff away you will find it next to impossible to get us out of the monarchy. For one thing, you will have to have the unanimous agreement of all of the Provinces to do so. Good luck with that. They can't agee to the colour of shyte and you know that one or another of them will block it for their own reasons. I get it ... you are young, idealistic and not up to speed on what can and cannot happen in Canadian politics.
