Canada is just completing a class of 6 (very large) Arctic patrol ships for the Navy at the Irving shipyard in Halifax. Two are commissioned, two more are being finished on the water and two more are being completed in the assembly area on land. After two extra ones are completed for the Coast Guard, they will start on the 15 ship Frigate production. The Seaspan shipyard in Vancouver is building two large supply ships for the Navy as well as several Coast Guard ships at the same time. The other Canadian yard with the ability to build warships, Davie in Quebec City was shut out of the bidding for a long time but is able to again. They are re-furbishing and building ships for the Coast Guard They don't have warship orders (yet) They were the yard that converted a container ship to a supply ship although some of the assembly was done in Finland. I'm guessing that they will end up building sub-components for the Frigates before this is all over.

Right. Alberta doesn't have a Pacific coastline. Why should we care about Pacific security?
6
Hey, Alberta. There are fewer entities in Canada more starved of resources than the Canadian Navy. They can hardly put anything to sea at all and that has been the situation for decades/generations. If there is a military emergency (like we've had in the past), the tight sphinctered Canadian taxpayers that have let them down so will be whining that we don't have enough Navy (like you have in the past).

We call those things "alliances" and alliances provide protection for all of us in Canada as we spend practically nothing on our ally's defenses. We are freeloaders.

... third largest navy ...

@mattl4802 Canada, US and Japan ... That carrier is Japanese. Can you read, Lieutenant? PLA, right?

Let's rename the Sea, then. Let's call it the Russian Sea. That'll go along with all that Chinese Territory that the Russians occupy on that sea.
2
Maybe, that's why the Canadian Navy is in the middle of an icebreaker construction project right now.
2
When did you hear that the fires aren't being put out because there are insufficient funds to do so? I haven't. Tell me when and where you did. They appear to be sparing no expense ... writing blank cheques to fight fires right now. You're talking bull.
2
Yup. The Russians have declared that not only is Ukraine part of Russia, they OWN all Ukrainians and can do whatever they wish with them ... physically and mentally. Fascist regimes DEMAND territory and pass laws sowing that they OWN countries and their people.
2
@terryleung622 Yup . See above post. They're building to very large supply ships and a passel of Coast Guard ships at Seaspan. They're also nearly a decade behind. The dope's pretty smooth out there.

@MetaView7 Who is your preferred contractor? ... a shipyard in Red Deer?
1
@MetaView7 The Chinese are pooping out tin cans built to mercantile standards so that they can have a big navy on the cheap and quick. We did that during the wartime emergency but those flimsy, hastily built ships sank like bricks when they were hit and so will the Chinese destroyer more than likely. It takes years to build a proper warship anywhere and the Chinese are not taking the time. Don't forget, the last time the Chinese fought a major naval engagement, they were in ships made from mahogany and bamboo. Being "Wolf Warriors" won't be nearly enough. China is amateur hour when it comes to navy.
1
@bcc5084 I have no doubt that if they haven't done so previously, we will see Chinese warships in the Salish sea.
1
@albback8176 We'll see them trying to cruise the Northwest Passage without permission once the acquire the technology to do so.
1
@albback8176 Oh, yes they do! They're all "Wolf Warriors" you know.
1
@markopecinovic4475 What is "the " incident? There are dozens going on.
1
@markopecinovic4475 The Chinese declared that they re an "Arctic Nation" just last year. Maybe, they'll claim that Russian ridge. It is a long way from Mother Russia. Anyway, that Russian "claim" for ownership of the North Pole was rubbish and only a Russian believes it.
1
China just declared themselves to be an "Arctic Nation". How the hell does that work? What part of the Arctic do they plan to annex to become one?
1
@shaunfinnigan4326 Actually, those people are clumsy. Did you get Covid?
1
@jptrainor Yeah a "referendum" where they went door-to-door with armed soldiers looking you in the face as you voted. Did any Ukrainian speakers get to vote? Not bloody likely. Did any outside observes verify the legitimacy of the "vote"? Of course not. These are Russians, we're talking about. They have zero/zip/nada idea of how democracy works. Their "referendum" was a sham . They had a "result before they started. Don't make us laugh, Ivan.
1
@MetaView7 Have you read the Geneva Convention? No? Of course not.. You're with the Killer Apes.
1
@RedTeamBlueTeam Japan is not in NATO but our relationship with the Pacific allies may be more important in the long run.
1
@RedTeamBlueTeam The Canadians are steaming with the Japanese (not NATO ) and the US (NATO) and that is why I made the comment. See that carrier? That's a Japanese carrier. The other destroyer (not the Chinese one) Is an Ardleigh Burke US Navy ship. That Canada is in NATO does not make this a NATO exercise. Do you even know what NATO is?
1
@RedTeamBlueTeam "Yeah, it’s not like we meet any other NATO commitments. " This was not a NATO commitment. I corrected you because there are throngs of trolls on here that add Australia, Japan, South Korea on here as NATO because ... well NATO is everywhere (even "SURROUNDING" Russia!)

@shaunfinnigan4326 ???? How so?
