for the pulsing rocket I think you were achieving too high of a pressure, thus it spiked, turned into a detonation, pressure dropped and it repeated

I'm curious as to why you didn't try using some of those elastic polymers with a 3d printed shell for this since most hybrid rockets are some form of rubber in a casing, also they tend to use a star shape center cutout
6
kinda like a cold steam engine but the problem is nitrogen gets too cold to work with normally
3
its not solid CO2 in there its liquid CO2
2
love how literally everything else melted before the nozzle

1:42 tbf, there was a proposal for an early draft of ULA's new Vulcan to include a V8 engine running hydrogen and oxygen to spin the pumps, thus removing the need for complicated turbines and premix systems

Integza: I shall build a pump! Most People: Wonder what happens if I use the power washer while on the skateboard

a farnsworth fusor isn't that dangerous, only like a 2 on the PlainlyDifficult disaster scale
1
I wonder if you made the disks out of stamped titanium so they'd be very rigid would that improve it somehow
1
you could also just use a braked flywheel
1
to really get the parts sintered you migut need to burn off the resin submerged in a medium like sand or salt, something to keep the interiors shape
1
certainly making progress
1
well it didn't explode, this is forward momentum
1
glaze the nozzle?
1
monopropellant isn't Cold its just less hot than its contemporaries, handling high test peroxide is not fun, used to use 95% hydrogen peroxide in lab work from what I've read it gets dangerous above that, can't imagine what it would look like if i had any permanganate sitting around

RIP Loadcell 2022-2022

maybe put some thread lock on those screws if they're vibrating loose (or just some glue if you're lazy)
1
the big versions use rotatable stator vanes to keep the compressor pressure up, thus keeping the combustion process sustaining, but that's probably beyond your capabilities
1
I think this thing might be setup as a hit or miss setup where the ignition is limited by the rpms that the sensor is sensing, too fast and it just skips ignition until it slows back down
1
you could try putting a high temp silicone o-ring on either side of the metal or some rtv-red gasket material
1
I wonder if you could include the fuel line to the engine itself since a 3d metal printer could make those tiny channels
1
just spitballing but did you consider a second, starting intake where you can inject air in to start the engine, then close it and let the engine intake through the tesla valve? a few jet engines use this method for startup due to similar problems with not getting enough intake air to the core for a self sustaining reaction
1
graphite gasket material might be the key for between the parts, it comes in flat sheets that you cut to the desired shape. I used to use it on high temp ovens to seal these pressure chambers we had inside. id also look at somehow glazing the engine, the glaze would fill the pores in the ceramic
1
I can see one slight problem with your setup, in that you're down range from it
1
you just need to calibrate a loadcell using a known weight, you can get sets off the internet fairly cheaply. Hang it off the cell calibrate the cell in tension, then on the cell to calibrate in compression.
