  1. the fact that the Union Navy was able to go from a few ships to being able to blockade THE ENTIRE SOUTH in a few short years is mind boggling because you had to have people, ships, ships to supply those ships, people on those ships, and so on and so forth, and they started with next to nothing

  5.  @L0stEngineer  well as drach has explained before, the british navy in the 18800s was astoundingly large and most US shipping was not ocean going so we lacked lots of projection
