if CWIS or laser systems get much better than missiles or bombers you could see a return to big gun ships but the only ships big enough to carry enough CWIS would be the Kirovs and they're not multiplying anytime soon. Big guns have the singular advantage in that you can't really intercept them

tanks wish they could fire the heavy slugs battleships could fire, imagine a firefly sherman firing a shell that's dense enough to just smash through a tiger from front to rear without needing explosives

@gregorywright4918 a modern 5" gun yes is rather similar in size to a tank round but the question was in regards to battleship or other ww2 naval guns, in ww2 they certainly tried to stick navy ordinance on tanks and every time it was terrible and in practice could only ever carry a couple rounds of ammunition, whereas a warship can have elevators down to the magazines. you can't really make a gun much bigger than the 120mm, the rhinemetal 130 they're showing off starts to again have drawbacks in ammunition space and handling as well as gun depression and all the other problems that they have everytime they build a bigger tank gun
