Israel Hands probably just a folk tale. its extremely unlikely anyone would survive 15 years in those conditions alone. japanese left behinds in a lot of cases were almost naked because their uniforms rotted away after years of hiding in the wilderness of the south pacific, nobody could have possibly survived 15 years without any help
