  4. check out the atmospheric railway, it was immensely wasteful and inefficient yet was a pneumatically driven train before even steam engines were that good

  5. so added bonus a great example of why trickledown economics and unregulated business practices fail the public and wider economy. if they had been forced to be rail line neutral they would have actually grown the economy and passed savings on to consumers but instead that savings was concentrated almost exclusively to the wealthy elites who ran or owned shares in the railroads.

  7. people forget that while the manned space program ramped up then back down then up again, the space probe programs just kept growing bigger and bigger, the mariners are completely under appreciated, these were the very first man-made objects to visit these worlds years before the voyager probes would do the same thing, and many stuck around doing the first scientific surveys unlike the voyagers
