  1. interestingly the book Radiance, when covering chernobyl had quotes from eye witnesses from nearby villages reporting seeing a rainbow of colored fireflies in the night sky, which I presume might have been caused by the radioactive particles interacting with the atmosphere and the various other combustion byproducts from the fires. They also reported seeing a purple glow, which we do see in high flux reactors but probably was also from the radioactive material interacting with the fire.
