we'd be all dead from the utter collapse of any and all social structure due to everybody being a NIMBY

Egalitarianism, the seldom used cousin to equality. Communism and capitalism both express everything in terms of equality, not egalitarianism.

I think the problem with small nuclear powers sparking off a conflict is that both the US and Russia might view the conflict as one that can be won through traditional weapons at that point. only the US and Russia really possess the arsenals required to switch to mutual all out strikes, everybody else possesses an arsenal big enough to tell everybody else to eff off but not big enough to really fight off multiple enemy states. like if china launched its entire force at the US, we could be selective with our retaliatory strike because they have a small amount of missiles, and we could hold lots of bombs in reserve to hold back our other adversaries

I think its kind of obvious where that would have gone given that unfettered capitalism is literally destroying the world and has no intention to stop as that's infringing on their right to make money

the funny thing is the romans were just on the cusp of industrialized but they never really made that intuitive leap, but then europeans only made the leap because they needed to make better cannons. the need for iron drove the invention of a steam water pump, cannon boring techniques were used directly for creating a better steam engine, and in turn the industrial revolution began blackpowder really was such a paradigm shift in human power, in that it put engineering and science out front

A pissed off Western west roman empire returning back to europe with a thousand legions of men and enough ships to walk across the med would be a hell of a great alt history

This is basically the Brave New World, as it was driven primarily by depression followed by expansive conquest and bloody crushing of everything opposing the technocracy

Man if the native americans hated europeans, they'd really hate roman legions

Basically see: A Brave New World, minus the drug induced social control mechanisms I guess.

nuclear weapons would still lead to a hell of a lot of instability by the 1950s as the soviets would still fear the US and the US would loose its shit when the USSR got nukes. The problem is after that you actually do need diplomats and such to negotiate a way off the nuclear cliff

well, they weren't wrong, but they also weren't right at the same time. They SHOULD have understood the need for globalization and without the shitty way we did it with free movement of capital and nothing else.

ya and then the massive amount of excess machinery, materials, and loose capital lead to a large amount of opportunity for businesses to surge, plus since the government spent 10 years basically paying everyone, consumer spending would finally lift the economy
