this is the first of these sort of systems to genuinely look like it may be adopted which is crazy considering the tens of billions spent on projects like it over the last 50 years
15
kind of the unique thing you only can do with a tank. no other weapon system lets you drive a large piece of artillery up to the enemy, fire, and duck back under cover before they know what hit them, and move as fast
11
as someone who no longer works in the aerospace industry. Taking a guess: Yes, they've probably been working on the development of the individual systems and design for components for over a decade
3
agreed. russia has been just deploying armored vehicles piecemeal instead of in the types of formations they were designed for and they're loosing vehicles because of that
3
BMP 3 is actually a naval gunboat capable of driving on land, sometimes
3
ha this video got dated quite quickly
2
paratroops were obsolete even halfway through ww2, with the germans giving up on the tactic after Crete and the d day landings were not contingent on them for that reason
1
the chinese light tank is more designed for their mountanous terrain in the south, not so much for invading tiawan
1
the capital gyrocopter pilot was tracked the whole way in, the failure was that everybody assumed someone else was stopping it
1
Its not entirely clear that the B-2 ever really carried its full payload anyways because of the range that would have reduced it by
1
cookoff would be slightly mitigated by the fact that polymer doesn't conduct heat very well, though by that same token, heat mitigation will be more important since you're not dumping it into brass
1
ferries are not amphibious assault craft. you'd have to land, secure a port and then begin landing troops with the ships but taking a port is very difficult
1
the problems with the B-1b and B-2 are they're very expensive due to using those weird late 70s and 80s components that are not in production anymore, the only reason why the b52 is cheap is because its electronics aren't as sophisticated, aren't as integrated, and the airforce has hundreds of b52s in boneyards
1
seems like a tank we should have brought to afghanistan. india, china, and south korea have all built these class of vehicles recently, aimed at fighting in mountanous terrain
1
"We built the biggest IFV ever!" Tanks for all the targets Xi
1
TOW is great because it cannot be jammed and the guidance system can be sat away from your target
1
tbf aps doesn't seem to be as good as its been touted to be especially if the side doing the shooting has multiple launchers
1
OK its bad, but the M2 Bradley is worse because it was supposed to be a BMP but built right, and yet it became a light tank, then the soviets made the bmp 3 copying the m2's design philosophy and there's still not a great IFV with good infantry transport
1
a 10km range for an anti tank missile seems a little excessive
1
I thought about it but Mr Ted "kill the government" Cruz made it basically impossible to join when I was at the age to do so, I talked to recruiters in college about doing ROTC and they turned me away, they had no spots because of the sequester, and didn't throughout my college years, all thanks to ted cruz trying to force through stupid ideology. I thought about joining after college and decided against it. Not sure how we fix the military really because its now being dragged into the wokeness wars by the GOP at a time when it really needs to change its culture
1
tbh this thing isn't likely going to swarm AD if anyone has an AA gun. A guipard would annihilate a swarm of these things
1
the 3 grenade rule probably is because they can't garentee whatever they're using for a fuze will set off all of them at once
1
the philipine army sending them into urban warfare is stupidity on their part, the m113 has stuck around in the army exactly for the role its been used in, as a taxi
1
oh no its all the same arguments made in 1976 after vietnam even blaming it on wokeness or hippies as it was called back then
1
kind of sad the polymer ammo didn't take off since that would have absolutely been a new direction for ammunition development
1
Recruiter: The army is accepting of all people Commander in Chief: GET DA GAYS AND TRANS OUT OF THE ARMY sure, can't see any conflicting message there
1
probably nobody wants to participate in Operation Desert Stand Around on the US Mexico Boarder
1
@sciarpecyril there's automatic systems to pop smoke, plus nato tanks just generally have better overall situational awareness
