not that I would want a FLW house for practicality but he had a point about how the structure should be able to exist in its environment. A lot of what I don't like about modern architecture is when they're clearly trying to build a sculpture instead of a building

usually works fine until you hit it with some large external jet fuel filled load

Kinda like living on a boat, your living space is up top, your sleeping space under the water line

ugh yes it looks pretty but those arches are very difficult to construct, and will be difficult to maintain

the top of a skyscraper used to be something important and desirable and they weren't just offices.

Now a good question is why did these succeed when most large scale urban family towers built at the same time fail. it does seem like the focus on mixed use and mixed income streams helped prevent the sort of crime problems that happened throughout the day when they were vacant

god there's always something unnerving about these massive atrium hotels, you go out your room door, and you have this maybe 10 foot wide walkway then a 150 foot drop to the ground. Never liked them for some reason. stayed in a hotel in columbus ohio which was this vast interior space

shoulda taken the chance to build a light rail on the thing, you've already fixed the right of way issues that hold up such projects

there's the capital records building in LA which has a similar shape to it as well, though that's always been an office building

love the math, 300k for film, then 250k for the fine, 18 million for the settlement then presumably way more than 3 million for the replacement because of the urgency vs 3 million to replace the windows

I know there's a growing number of communities that wouldn't let them put the old red roofed places in because they were "eyesores",

What style would a Furness building be

Wut they got rid of the giant golden arches in chicago!?

it might not be interior urbanism but the new operators of the International Exposition Center in Cleveland Ohio are currently in the process of sub-dividing the massive exposition center into several exposition venues, and commercial business spaces with the ultimate goal to have a use for every space in the vast structure generating revenue with additional follow on plans to build additional structures in the large area currently devoted to parking. All told, they're taking an old aircraft/tank plant and subdividing it into a vast quasi interior urban space because they hope to have dozens of businesses with hundreds of workers under one roof, as well as exposition events going on at the same time. And anyone who's been there kind of knows that while its not far off the beaten track, because of its attached location to the airport, its not got a whole lot of businesses around it, and the airport bought out much of the housing around it for a planned then cancelled expansion project back in the early 00's
