@unvergebeneid airbus came about not through british but french and german consolidation, and RR would have their own problems on commerical jets such as the lockheed tristar

I'm not sure I'd rate this that high on the severity scale, its absolutely a milestone in aircraft safety and rightly deserves its place on the legacy scale, but air travel at the time wasn't nearly safe enough to make this that much of an outlier. there were accidents from other manufacturers at the time with as much loss of life, its just the comet was being pushed out so rapidly and was such a prestige project

@danielduncan6806 not strictly true, pylon mounted engines eventually won out for their ease of upgrade and ease of maintenance. the brits kept on the integrated engine though with their V-Bombers

@OfftheWallTales ya but you had piston powered airplanes crash and kill as many people, its just this crashed because of a design flaw, though I'd argue the super constellations loosing engines routinely was also a bad design flaw
