  2. b17s have an oddly low payload but then in order to get them built they were actually designed as something we don't really have today, as a long range torpedo heavy bomber meant to go out and hit capital ships days or hours before they ever get in range of the US coast

  3. you wonder why they even kept on with through propeller machineguns when the pilot and thus the sights were well above the propeller arc. you could have just mounted the machineguns on the top wing

  5. huh, they've been going back and forth on this thing for like a decade, there's not even an afghanistan to give these to which was what prompted the contract to begin with. I wonder how this won out over the super tucano which previously won a program like this

  6. ya thats what everybody needs, a prop plane with VLSS's, though we could use more turboprop pusher fan designs, these things promised to be incredibly fuel efficient but none have ever really made it to market

  8. kinda crazy that with jet engines, radar, and variable wings they still had to specify all metal construction, but then again its only 5 years removed from wooden carrier decks

  9. its big, its kinda dumb, but the germans could shoot it full of holes and not hit anything important thanks to the huge supercharger duct underneath and the radial engine. should have been given drop tanks but the p51 just performed better in that role with its better aerodynamics
