  1. obfuscating schematics isn't even that new sadly. Curious Marc always talks about how he can fix any HP equipment before the 1990s because they stopped publishing schematics and switched to equipment as a service model back then, so stuff using ancient tech from the 50s, he can fix, stuff from the late 80s with microprocessors he can fix, stuff from after the switch, well he can fix but he has to reverse engineer the schematics which takes a lot of time and resources
