  1. the problem is that if you tell a russian that they're having a gas crisis they think everybody is going to freeze to death, with massive rationing and lines everywhere. rather in europe the crisis is that they might have to tightly manage supply to keep things normal, and people might need to be frugal about their usage. Worlds appart in thought. europe is not in any danger of a ussr level of scarcity.

  2. that's the oil card 101, OPEC never had the clout they did in the early 70s after the first oil embargo because the US and the West as a whole went looking for local oil as well as massively reduced oil usage by energy efficiency programs, same thing happens with russia right now, they cut off the flow and europe recalibrates their energy supplies away from russia

  4. they think this is going to cause a USSR style continent wide gas scarcity, not the tightening of energy supply that the western leaders are concerned about. Its worlds apart in management of societies.
