As for booster they went and purchased a Long March 1 from china to mate to their capsule, also they're investigating tri-fuel rockets

  6. +Павел Жданов the rocket they were going to use was already using mass produced engines though, they just "taped" four of them together, so they weren't expensive like the shuttle engines. in fact the exact same engines from the energia program are (or were) being used on a ton of American launches. the Soviets really were thinking right when it came to engine development, where as in the US we just sort of built one engine over and over again, today however renewed interest has at least kick started US engine programs and we seem to be following what worked for the USSR, economies of scale, and simplicitt

Yes Von Buran was involved in using slave labor and didn't seem bothered by it but he can't be held accountable for Hitler shooting his rockets at London and elsewhere. He's a complicated figure for sure but he was also working within an evil society which used slave labor and his superiors had standing orders to shoot him if he didn't cooperate.

  27.  @jemborg  not sure where you're getting the part about their planes being unflyable. they were really difficult to fly but they did work, the replica built 10 years ago for the 100th anniversary was built to wright specs using both drawings and surviving articles and was flown. Its just the wrights in general were not so great at business

A lunar landing by 2024 is absolutely nuts, we would need to have an operational LEM, CM+SM+booster by next year the shuttle's components are like the zombies of rocket science, they just can't die and make room for non compromised rockets

  43.  @Markle2k  there's multiple heavy launchers that will be better in almost all regards than sls, you have new glen, a variant of the vulcan, the arine rockets, falcon heavy and bfr, sls is just bad engineering, the first stage engines alone are a boondoggle by using the most expensive engines ever developed and throwing them away every time, the ssme's were not meant to be burned up

  48.  @brontehauptmann4217  uh what? if you built models then you should have looked up pictures of the LEMs with the rover unfolding, it was basically a flatpack thing that they pulled out on a cable. Also for manned missions especially earlier in space exploration the vehicles had extra deltaV for unanticipated maneuvers and correction burns since the guidance systems were pretty rudimentary and actual trajectories had to be calculated on the ground using larger computers. But the biggest flaw with moon conspiracies is that there wasn't a way to spoof live broadcasts from the moon back in 1969, the soviets could pick up the apollo telemetry, as could anyone with a dish of sufficient size. Nasa didn't have an orbiting satellite network until later in apollo, and again, the soviets would have been able to determine if nasa was on the moon or just in orbit
