It's very nice to see a video which covers topics like this; one of the least taught periods of one of the least taught continents.

  3. This video has more complicated animations than any of my previous videos. I spent A LOT of effort to make this video the best video I have made so far: better animations, music, and more attention on my own voice. But this has also been the most time-consuming video I've ever made. So hopefully this video is the beginning of a new History Scope 'era' and I can keep this up this quality in the future. I hope you guys like this video and if you have any feedback then please let me know by replying to this comment. I do actually read all of them thanks to the YouTube Creator app.

  5. 9:03 As someone who's autistic, I really appreciate that you put "how are you" in there. To this day, I can't figure out if someone form the USA is genuinely asking me how I am doing, whether it's a greeting, or how you're even supposed to respond to it. While talking to people from Europe I always know that that person is genuinely asking me how I am doing. It's a small thing to point out, but it's always so confusing to me to speak to people from the USA for little differences like that.

  11. I am holding all new comments for review for a while. I will approve genuine comments once a day, regardless of whether I agree with your comment or not. The invasion of Ukraine also meant an invasion of Russian bots spreading disinformation. We here at History Scope try our best to stick to facts as best we can. Bots spamming propaganda go very much against this goal. I will turn the comments back to normal again once the amount of bots is back to 'normal' also.

  14. I´m from the Netherlands and I used to date someone from Russia and spent several summers there. What struck me personally the most was the lack of plumbing outside of the urban areas. Her parents built a toilet atop a hole in the ground. It was honestly depressing. I once gifted them a bedsheet from Ikea and they were supper happy with it. something people in the Netherlands can get easily, they were impressed by. Her mother was in her 60s on a pension and still had to work in the garden every day to get enough food. she had to work almost every day for a low salary on top of her pension and gardening. It was honestly super sad to see.

  16. I've been thinking about your comment for a while (which is why I hearted your other comment). This is what I'm going to do: all the 6 episodes are going to be put into 1 long video. I think that will reach more people than 6 separate episodes. If they get a lot of views (100k+) I'd LOVE to do a compendium video about the Perpecha. The Aztecs, Mayans, and Inca are WAY over represented in history books. That is not to say they don't deserve a lot of attention, but it's also important to realise there were a lot of other countries and civilizations in these regions in those times. I think I did cover that quite a bit here, especially in the first 3 episodes where I talk a lot about the Aztecs's interactions with other countries. But I'd LOVE to do a while video on it. But only if it seems people are interested in it... I might ask people in a poll or at the end of the video if they'd like to see such a video.

  18. I am planning to make this into a series with the creation of the Berlin wall, it's fall, and ending with the post-reunified Germany. It is unfortunate that I was forced to cut the turmoil of East-Germany after reunification.

I will elaborate in more detail what happened to the people living behind the Iron Curtain, including the fate of these people. Thank you (and all the others) for pointing it out! :)

Just to give a bit more context on the Dutch involvement in slave trade: The Dutch were part of the slave trade the moment it became part of the Spanish Empire in the 15th century: In Madeira the Portuguese built sugar plantations. This sugar cane was refined in Flanders (modernday Belgium), and the sugar was sold across Europe from Amsterdam. When the Dutch declared independence from Spain, the Dutch Republic built and conquered sugar plantations in the Americas, just to keep their hold on Europe's sugar market. When the war with Spain ended, Portugal declared independence from Spain. But Portugal was Spain's main slave providers. And the Spanish asked the Dutch to take over, providing Spain with most of their slaves for decades. When I tell Dutch people about this they are surprised. Even though we learn about the Spanish Empire and our independence from them, nobody ever even thought to ask the question 'did we participate in the Spanish slave trade' for example.

  29. Yes. Completely true. And the worst part is that this isn't the worst type of human sacrifice. Imo the worst one is for their god of agriculture. They would take a child and beat them in front of their friends and family. They would stop beating the children when they and their loved ones would have cried enough. The tears falling to the ground would symbolise rain falling. Afterwards they would kill the child.

  30. Do other people have this issue? I don't have the issue myself. If this only happens to some people then I know I can't rely on my own hardware. So just commenting whether or not you have this issue will give me more insight into the problem and what not to do next time. :)
