I know I am coming to this after a whole year, I just found it. But I have to comment on his crooked portrayal of Texas independence. In the first place Santa Anna was many years later elected president of Mexico but at this time he was not the real president. That was a man named Bustamonte, Santa Anna chased him out and took over as dictator. That was the immediate cause of the war for independence. Even then he might have avoided war but Stephan Austin traveled to Mexico City to bargain with him and he just threw Austin in Jail and he had to pay a big bribe to get out. Austin went back to Texas and said that we could not reason with Santa Anna. Also, it was not just the Anglos that revolted, everyone did. The Texas Mexicans were led by a big landholder named Juan Segin. Slavery was not the main issue since very few settlers had any slaves. Most white settlers were poor people from Kentucky and Tennessee, and also a lot of them came directly from Europe, from Bohemia and the Czech kingdom. Finally David Crockett was not an Indian fighter, just the opposite he had a great relationship with the Creek and Seminole peoples and so was hired as a scout by Andrew Jackson but he then was appalled by Jackson's genocidal attacks. Jackson had him arrested when he refused to help. He ran for congress primarily to warn people that Jackson was a crook and a maniac.
