Facinating. There was a mint in Murphy, NC for a time, very close to Georgia mines, after Indigenous People were removed. I believe it was privately owned. They opened it during Removal of Cherokee, in 1830. It took a few years to get rid of Cherokees so they could steal their land and gold. Amazingly, some managed to stay. Indian Removal is a sad story indeed.
